Green Belt Lean management

This 4-day course describes key management structures for controlling and improving operational performance.

The course is based on selected parts from Lean, Process Management (BPM) and Agile methods.

The course is one of the two main themes in Green Belt – Lean Six Sigma.

Languages

Green Belt Lean courses are conducted in either Norwegian or English.

Course format

The course has a format where we combine classroom and online via Microsoft Teams:

  • Session 1 (day 1 and 2) is online via Teams
  • Session 2 (days 3 and 4) is hybrid (classroom or Teams)

The Green Belt Lean course can be conducted as an in-house course.

Contents

The content has been systematically developed in collaboration with a number of senior managers and improvement experts from 2002 to the present day.

  • Course content

    This course provides a thorough introduction to the common structures the line organization needs to ensure operational control and continuous improvement.

    Key content is:

    • How to map stakeholders, customers and requirements for an area of responsibility (e.g. a department)
    • How to map the processes included in the area of responsibility (e.g. a department)
    • How to fill the “stop doing” list with the right content
    • How to design meeting structures and visual boards for operational control and replanning
    • How to use Agile methods like Kanban and Scrum in activity management
    • How to design and implement processes for continuous improvement
    • How to go about reorganizing the physical workspace using 5S
    • How to establish preventive maintenance of assets
    • How to map competence needs in the short and long term
    • How to define leaders most important standard work

  • Overview of Tools and Methods

    The following tools are reviewed:

    • Brainwriting
    • Value stream mapping
    • Spaghetti diagram
    • Process design
    • Context diagram
    • A3 problem solving
    • 8D problem solving
    • Various proactive and reactive improvement structures including Kaizen Event, Kaizen Circle and Kaizen workshop
    • Design of improvement processes
    • Design of meeting structures
    • Activity management using Scrum and Kanban
    • Workplace organization using 5S
    • Reducing changeover time with the help of SMED
    • OEE
    • One-point lessons
    • The leaders standard work

    Some of the methods and tools are described thoroughly, others at an introductory level.

    *) Access is granted two weeks prior to the course and lasts for two weeks after completion of the last module.

  • Focus on skills through practice and repetition

    In the courses, methods and tools are trained through exercises in group rooms. The results of the group work are presented and discussed.

    For the best possible engagement and learning, time is spent every day on repetition and discussion of the theory reviewed.

  • Diploma and certification

    Diploma: To receive a diploma for confirmed successful completion, you must have attended 3 out of 4 course days.

    Certification: This course is part of Aksena’s Green Belt Lean Six Sigma course. The requirements for Green Belt certification can be found in the Green Belt Lean Six Sigma course description.

    Accommodation in connection with the course must be organized and paid for by the participants themselves.
